Spring into action with the Appleby Sportive 2014

by isleofman.com 16th April 2014

Entries are now open on-line (via www.ellanvannin.cc) for the 5th annual Appleby Sportive, which will take place on Bank Holiday Monday, 5 May.

Starting and finishing at Ramsey Rugby Club, the challenging cycling event consists of timed courses over either 100km or 72km, taking in many roads that are not typically used in local races and featuring more than 1500m of ascent, including the climbs of Druidale and Slieau Whallian.

The Sportive is sponsored by Appleby as part of its support for the Ellan Vannin Cycling Club. In 2013 the law firm renewed its three-year sponsorship agreement with the club, which also includes providing Appleby-branded cycling kit for the club and supporting the Appleby Under 18 Circuit Championships, a competitive cycling event on the Island for young riders.

Managing Partner of Appleby (Isle of Man) LLC, Sean Dowling, said: ‘We’re all very excited about the Appleby Sportive, which is now in its fifth year. Our sponsorship of the EVCC is part of our wider commitment to developing sport on the Isle of Man and, as we have a number of riders in our staff, we fully understand the benefits cycling offers.’

EVCC Chairman Richard Fletcher added: ‘This year’s Appleby Sportive is shaping up to be a fantastic event which will continue the growth in popularity we’ve seen since it was launched. I would like to thank Appleby for their continued sponsorship; it is thanks to businesses like them that we can continue to support cyclists of all ages and abilities on the Island.’

Any profits raised from entry fees will be invested into the Under 18 Circuit Championships. Full details are available at www.ellanvannin.cc or by calling Richard Fletcher on 498849.
