Cheshire Plate joy for Nomads

by isleofman.com 19th April 2014

Southern Nomads have ended the season in style.

They won the Cheshire Plate for the second time in three years on Easter Saturday with a 24-17 victory over Parkonians.

Tries from Andy Lean, man of the match Conor Stevens and a double from Steve McHugh, with two conversions from Will Caine, clinched the silverware at Winnington Park in Cheshire.

And after what has been a poor domestic campaign, ensured Nomads secured silverware to end the season on a high.

Parkonians had taken the lead with a push over try from Paul Hillin who added a second.

In the middle of that, Allan Williams added a try and Ben Sadler a conversion but it wasn’t enough.

Douglas completed their debut season in South Lancashire/Cheshire Division One with a 20-20 draw at Wigan.

Two tries from Lance Wylie, one from Daryn Thomson and a conversion and penalty from Bryn Snellgrove sealed the draw.

Although they missed out on promotion, the Manx side can still look back on an encouraging campaign.
