After a spell of weather that seemed to guarantee rain for Club nights and Sundays, the Outdoor Archery season finally got underway at the weekend. Nine archers managed to make it to Greeba over the course of the day. A mixed bag of metric rounds was shot, ranging from the 1440 to the Metric IV.
Only three archers shot for the entire day: Joy Gough, Pete Mumford and Josh Trafford. Pete and Joy shot the 1440 round (3 dozen arrows at each of four distances – 70, 60, 50 & 30m). Josh shot a Metric II round according to his age group, the same number and distribution of arrows but at distances of 60, 50, 40 and 30m. It was his first attempt at the round and he did well despite the freezing, sometimes gusting winds down at the field.
Billy Lightfoot and Colin Moore both shot a Long Metric I in the morning, which consists of 3 dozen arrows at each of two distances – 70 and 60m, with Colin Moore setting a personal best score.
In the afternoon session Pete, Joy and Josh were joined by Karen Lott and juniors Jack Tyrer, Joseph Reaney and James Hill. James was shooting for the first time outdoors and his debut coincided with the worst of the day’s weather, as the promised ‘intermittent showers’ hit the field. However the weather did not put a damper on things. Karen Lott, shooting a Short Metric (3 doz arrows at 50 & 30m), added a terrific 132 points to her personal best. The juniors shot according to age group. Jack Tyrer added 58 points to his pb for the Short Metric II (3 doz arrows at 40 & 30m). Joseph Reaney and James Hill both shot a Short Metric IV (3 doz arrows at 30 & 20m) and set personal best scores.
