PAC chairman rejects resignation call

The chairman of the Public Accounts Committee, Michael MHK Alf Cannan, has rejected a call for his resignation.
Earlier today, Policy and Reform Minister Chris Robertshaw said Mr Cannan should stand down, after comments he made about government spending ?750,000 on consultants looking into the Island's National Insurance Fund.
Mr Cannan also accused Treasury Minister Eddie Teare of indulging in the 'Politics of Panic' by speaking about the fund running out sooner than expected.
Mr Robertshaw had this to say about Mr Cannan's remarks: (play audio)
Mr Cannan has now issued the following response,
"Alfred Cannan MHK has no intention of resigning from the Chair of the Public Accounts Committee who are looking into the expenditure of ?.75m on Consultants employed to report on the National Insurance Fund.
"Mr Cannan states that he is perfectly entitled to express his personal opinions on matters of Government Policy and that he is disappointed in the response and language used by Ministers Robertshaw and Teare."
