Double delight for dominant force

by isleofman.com 26th April 2014

Vikings A completed another dominant year in Manx hockey by sealing the Women’s Cup on Saturday.

A 5-1 victory over Ramsey A – courtesy of strikes from Kirsty Bowley (two), Breesha Foxton (two) and Sarah Blackman – overturned a half-time deficit to clinch a league and cup double.

The battling northerners had looked like they could cause a shock as they led at the break through Christina Kermeen.

But the champions proved too strong to secure yet more silverware – their sixth successive cup success.

Valkyrs A won the Men’s Cup to make up for their disappointment at being edged out in the league title race.

Two goals from Gareth Morris, one from Steven Lowe and an own goal secured a 4-2 win over a spirited Bacchas B.

They netted through Alex Bell and James Wright.

Tom Evans was the star as Bacchas Colts demolished Saracens A to win the Men’s Plate.

He scored eight in a one-sided showpiece.

Josh Riordan, Andy Burrows and Tom Beresford joined him on the scoresheet.

Valkyrs B won the Women’s Plate, edging out Vikings B on spot-kicks after a 2-2 draw.

Maxine Smalley and Helen Freer were on target for the cup winners, with Sacha Duchars and Jess Tarpey scoring for Vikings before goalkeeper Holly Croydon proved the hero in the shoot-out.
