Help share the beauty of the Island and raise fund for charity

by isleofman.com 28th April 2014
The hunt is on for photographs which will help us see the Island differently as part of a fundraising calendar project.

Manx Blind Welfare Society enjoyed tremendous success with its first calendar, released before Christmas, selling hundreds of copies all over the world, including to Canada, America and Germany, as well as throughout the UK and Isle of Man.

The 2014 MBWS Calendar was supported by professional and amateur photographers who donated their pictures for inclusion. Island firms sponsored individual pages, meeting the production cost and ensuring all the money raised through sales could go directly to providing vital services for more than 600 people with serious sight loss on the Isle of Man.

It was printed on the Island as well, by Mannin Media.

Although Christmas is many months away, work is already under way on the 2015 MBWS Calendar, and the charity is hoping more photographers will get involved.

Volunteers Coordinator and Events Organiser Debbie Kenyon said: ‘We were overwhelmed by the support for our first calendar, by the photographers who were so willing to share their stunning pictures, the local firms who became sponsors and, of course, the hundreds of people all over the world who bought a calendar, and in some cases many more than one!

‘Our theme of “Seeing the Island Differently” proved so popular we are keeping it for the 2015 calendar and we are appealing for anyone, professional or amateur, who has a photo which shows the spectacular beauty of the Isle of Man in an unusual or unique way to consider sharing it with us.

‘We think this is a wonderful way of sharing the Island’s breath-taking scenery, as well as raising much-needed funds to allow us to continue to provide important services to visually impaired people in the Isle of Man.’

She added: ‘We’d also be delighted to hear from anyone who is interested in sponsoring a page in the calendar, to help us meet production costs.’

If you have a photograph you’d like to offer for inclusion in the 2015 MBWS Calendar, or would like more information about sponsoring the calendar, email dkenyon@mbws.org.im.

There is a very small number of 2014 MBWS Calendars still available to purchase for ?5. They are available from Corrin Court in Onchan or by emailing dkenyon@mbws.org.im.
