Isle of Man Archery Report - 27th April

by isleofman.com 29th April 2014

The Isle of Man Archery Club met on Sunday to shoot a variety of National rounds under a beautifully sunny sky. However it soon became apparent that the conditions were far from ideal as strong, gusting winds played havoc with the arrows. At first blowing from right to left, the archers adjusted for the wind only to find that it had suddenly veered round left to right. If it was calm at the end of field where the targets were, then the archers were being buffeted at their end of the field.

Shooting in the morning Colin Moore, Danny Cowin and Matt Smith shot a Long National (4 doz arrows at 80yds and 2 doz at 60yds). Colin was nowhere near his best but Matt Smith added 261 to his pb and Danny shot the round for the first time.
The Seniors who were there all day shot a Hereford/Bristol I round which comprises of 6 doz arrows at 80yds, 4 doz at 60yds and 2 doz at 50yds.

In the Men’s Compound division Billy Lightfoot added 14 points to his pb and recorded the highest score of the day. In the Women’s Recurve division Karen Lott continued her brilliant run of form by adding 83 to her personal best score.

Bradley Layton and Charlotte Harris shot a Bristol II round for the first time which involves the same numbers and split of arrows as the Hereford/Bristol I but shot over distances of  60, 50 and 40yds. Charlotte Harris had no trouble with the conditions, recording only one miss and setting herself a high total to beat in the future.

Jack Tyrer and Joseph Reaney went head to head in a Junior National round (4 doz arrows at 40yds and 2 doz at 30yds) Jack added 55 points to his pb to take the round but Joseph attempting the distances for the first time did well in the challenging conditions. James Hill shot a Short Junior National for the first time.
