Team Isle of Man has a new website which will carry all the latest information in the countdown to the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. The site – www.cga.im – has details about competitors, sports, news about fundraising events, and offers the chance for supporters to donate funds to help the team. It will also carry news about Team Isle of Man’s Glasgow 2014 squad when it is announced by the Isle of Man Commonwealth Games Association (IOMCGA) on May 8. The Association is the organisation responsible for the publicity, fundraising, travel, and support for Team Isle of Man’s participation at the Commonwealth Games.
www.cga.im also features a countdown clock showing the seconds ticking away until the Glasgow 2014 opening ceremony at Celtic Park on July 23. Juliet Holt, President of the Isle of Man Commonwealth Games Association, said:
“With less than 100 days to go until the start of the Games there’s a lot happening with the announcement of our Glasgow 2014 squad, a weekend of exciting activities when The Queen’s Baton Relay is on the Island, and our gala evening on May 16. The new website is the best way for everyone to stay up to speed with all the latest news. It has been designed to make it easy for anyone to access all the information they need, and it also plays a key role in fundraising initiatives by promoting events and allowing anyone who wants to support the team to make a donation quickly and easily via the ‘donate’ option on the home page. IOMCGA is a registered charity (No.644) and relies upon fundraising events and donations to cover the costs of sending teams to the Commonwealth Games and Commonwealth Youth Games.”
The next big fundraising event is a gala evening featuring the Bond quartet at the Villa Marina on May 16. The evening will be a mix of entertainment, a raffle, and a chance to see some of the competitors selected to represent the Island at the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games. Guests will also be able to see The Queen’s Baton and Clyde, the Glasgow 2014 mascot. For tickets to the event go to http://cfvg.gov.im/.
The Queen’s Baton Relay, which as an integral part of the build-up to every Commonwealth Games, was launched by Her Majesty The Queen at Buckingham Palace on October 9 last year. It signalled the start of the Baton’s 118,000 mile journey to all Commonwealth nations and territories which includes a visit to the Isle of Man. The baton will arrive here on May 16 from the Guernsey and Jersey legs of the relay and will be accompanied by Clyde, and a BBC TV film crew. It will leave on Monday May 19 and continue its journey with the next stop being Northern Ireland. The relay will culminate at the opening ceremony of the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games.
