Support for election law changes

by isleofman.com 2nd May 2014
South Douglas MHK David Cretney says he's "very supportive" of the moves being put forward in a consultation on a Bill to update the law governing elections to the House of Keys.

The Representation of the People (Amendment) Bill includes proposals from an independent review which followed the East Douglas by-election in May 2010.

Measures concern funding of campaigns, setting a limit on the amount that can be spent and absent voting.

Mr Cretney - who has fought seven general elections - says he won't be standing again in 2016.

But he says after the problems of the 2010 by-election, it's important to ensure candidates should publicly declare any funding they receive and refuse anonymous donations.Clip 1
