Heritage Homes launches fund to showcase golf as sport for young girls

by isleofman.com 6th May 2014

A fund aimed at helping support the island’s talented young female golfers and raising the profile of the sport amongst young girls has been launched by Heritage Homes, part of the Dandara Group.

The Heritage Homes Golf Fund for Junior Girls will be administered by the Isle of Man Ladies Golf Association. Its President, Elaine Vincent, said it would be put to “excellent use” in assisting girls under the age of 18 with their travel, accommodation and meals expenses when attending Team GB and Lancashire County training events or competitions in the UK.

She added: “The Island has a number of exceptional young female golfers who have been talent-spotted by England Golf and now receive expert coaching with Lancashire County and Team GB. This involves regular travel to the UK for training and to play in national junior competitions, and whilst some funding is available from the Isle of Man Sports Council, most of the costs have been met by parents and other family members – until now that is.

We are absolutely delighted at the generosity shown by Heritage Homes in setting up this Fund which will really help our talented junior girl golfers develop their game and continue their progress up the amateur rankings.”

Heritage Homes and Dandara marketing director, Joanna Orton, said that although the main aim of the Fund was to help the Island’s talented young female golfers, the company also hoped it might also encourage more girls to get involved in the game.

“We have a wealth of female golfing talent here on the island and many of the girls today regularly represent the Island at national competitions and are members of UK Junior Squads. We hope that their achievements will inspire the island’s next generation of junior girl golfers.”
