Diver dies following incident

Shortly after 4pm on Friday 2nd May 2014 Police and ambulance services attended Port St Mary Harbour after receiving a report of a male diver who had become ill having surfaced near to Sugarloaf Rocks.

A sea king helicopter was despatched and the male was given first aid by fellow divers who were supported by staff from the Port St Mary life boat and then paramedics waiting at the harbour in Port St Mary, despite all efforts the male unfortunately died.

The next of kin have now been notified and Police can now confirm that the man was Eric Waburton, a sixty two year old male from Whitefield in Manchester who was visiting the island with friends on a pre-planned diving trip.
 
The Coroner has been notified and Police are continuing to conduct enquiries in relation to his death.
