Will you be joining the Harbour2Harbour Walk?

by isleofman.com 6th May 2014

Excitement for the inaugural Friends Provident International Harbour2Harbour Sponsored Walk is building as the event, taking place on Sunday 11th May, draws nearer.

People from across the Island, of all walking abilities, are reminded of this fantastic fun day, which will raise vital funds for three south-based charities. Entry forms are available for download from www.hubclubsci.im, by email  H2Hreg@hubclubsci.im, at a selection of shops in Port Erin, or by calling Janet Bridle on 838180.

Starting at 10am, the walk will follow a scenic coastal route from Castletown Harbour to Port Erin, going through Pooil Vaaish, Gansey, Port St Mary and Cregneash.  The finish area, at the former Marine Biological Station, will give the post-walk celebrations a party-like feel, where participants and their supporters can enjoy a hog roast, bouncy castle, tea, beer tents, ice-cream van and live music from local artists. Motorists are advised that the entire length of the breakwater will be closed between 9.30am and 6pm.

Volunteers from Friends Provident International and community group Men in Sheds will be on hand to offer refreshments along the route, courtesy of Green Mann Spring water.

Young participants, between the ages of 10 and 18, will have the opportunity to win an UP AND RUNNING goody bag by being the first from their age category to cross the finish line (for further details visit www.facebook.com/harbour2harbour).

Event organiser Janet Bridle said: ‘We are really excited about the H2H walk now - everything is coming together and lots of people have already registered. The support from local businesses, including our main sponsor Friends Provident International, has been fantastic, which just highlights the wonderful spirit in our community. The preparations we have made for the event and the party-like atmosphere we are going to enjoy at the finish area will make this an event to remember. We want everyone to come down and participate, to not only raise money for the good causes but to also enjoy a fantastic day out.’

The three southern charities which will benefit are Men in Sheds, Southern Befrienders and SPort Erin. The event is being organised by Southern Community Initiatives, which aims to create local projects that draw the community together and promote friendship through organised activities.
