The 2013-2014 mayor’s charity appeal has raised more than ?14,000.

The Mayor of Douglas Councillor Carol Malarkey revealed the total raised at a reception in Douglas town hall when she presented each of her four chosen charities with a cheque for ?3,500.

In addition ?500 was presented to the RNLI, money raised from the Deeply Dippy event in January, and an ‘oompah’ night raised ?450 for Douglas Town Band.

Presenting the cheques the Mayor said that with the support of the Mayoress, Councillor Sara Hackman and the charity committee the ‘fun’ had been put back into ‘fundraising’ and she extended her thanks to her fellow councillors and all those who had sponsored prizes over the year. Among the standout fundraising events were Deeply Dippy, the Mayor’s charity ball and the golf day at Douglas golf course.

The four charities sharing the ?14,000 are Junior Achievement Isle of Man, Manx Workshop for the Disabled, Tabitha’s Trust and Victim Support.
