Major upgrade of Douglas crematorium and chapel

by isleofman.com 6th May 2014
Work is due to begin this summer on a ?2.2 million project to extend and upgrade facilities at Douglas crematorium.

Plans include a second entrance to the chapel and a new exit which will mean funeral parties no longer meet each other as they arrive and depart.

A waiting area will provide shelter in bad weather and serve as an overspill room, with CCTV and an audio feed, for larger funerals.

At present when the chapel is full, mourners have to wait outside.

The improvements being carried out by Douglas council also include better disabled access and staff facilities and a new book of remembrance room.

A larger cremator has also been ordered.

Regeneration committee chairman Stephen Pitts says it's become clear they need to deal with larger coffins:Clip 1
