Friday 16th to Sunday 18th May will see the downstairs of Milntown House come into bloom with colour, contrast and scents as the members of the Northern Floral Art Group take over and adorn the rooms of the historic house with displays of contemporary and traditional floral arrangements.
The Northern Floral Art Group, which is affiliated with The National Association of Flower Arrangement Societies of Great Britain, aims to enrich the community by their flower arrangements and display in local care homes and a doctor’s surgery.
Julia Garfield, Chairman of the Group, said “We are delighted to have been invited to Milntown for what we hope will be a unique weekend of floral art. Our members are excited at the possibilities and challenges of decorating this historic house will bring and we hope to produce displays that will compliment and enhance the stunning surroundings”.
Vicky Crellin, Events Co-ordinator at Milntown said that the idea for the event came from one of the Milntown volunteers involved in the group. Some of the flowers and foliage used in the displays will be from the Milntown Gardens. She said “The ethos of the Milntown Trust is to keep Milntown alive as if it were still a home rather than a museum and what better way of doing it than bringing the sights and smells of the gardens inside.”
Entry, which includes free admission into the Milntown Gardens that day is ?5 per adult and ?2 per child. Tickets can be purchases on the day. A floral treasure hunt will also run in the gardens over the weekend for younger visitors.
A raffle will be held during the event, with the prizes being some of the arrangements on display. The Weekend of Flowers at Milntown will take place from 11am – 3.30pm from Friday 16th May to Sunday 18th May.
