The Kirk Braddan Children's Fair on Saturday was a mysterious occasion as the Young Magicians of Mann entertained the crowds. As well as putting on a show in the Hall, six members walked around and entertained groups with their tricks. Taking part in the show were Juan Moore from Castletown, Nathan Hill from Ballasalla and Andrew Martin from Douglas. First to perform was 15 year old Andrew, a pupil at King William's College. He brought along 'Scruffy', his puppet dog. Andrew explained "Scruffy does magic tricks as well as I do!" Juan then explained that everything in Australia was upside down, and proved it with the assistance of young volunteer Olivia Cowley. This was followed by a scientific experiment with a magical ending, when water vanished and reappeared from Olivia's elbow! Finally, audience member Megan Cowley agreed to 'lend Nathan a hand.' Nathan, like Juan, a student at Castle Rushen High School, then succeeded in cutting through her wrist without spilling a drop of blood. Surprisingly, Megan didn't look too concerned when the sharp blade descended and she received a well-deserved ovation from the large audience.
Before and after the show, young magicians Juan Christian, Fiona Pierce and Megan Wilson walked around the Fair doing magic, and those attending were happy to 'choose a card, any card.' Paul Martin and Mike Clague, both members of The Magic Circle and Magicians of Mann, were there to support the budding conjurors. They were very pleased with the group and Mike said "We were delighted to be asked to be part of this wonderful event and join in an afternoon of fun. It was great for some of our members to be able to emulate David Blaine and Dynamo and gain experience of performing for individuals and small groups as well as on the stage. " The Young Magicians of Mann will next be appearing at Laxey Fair on 28th June.
