Masterplan for central Douglas

by isleofman.com 13th May 2014

Creating an exciting place to visit, shop and do business in - that's the aim of a 'draft masterplan' on display this week at The Strand shopping centre.

A UK firm of architects who are experts in urban design, IBI Taylor Young, has been appointed by the government.

Economic Development Minister John Shimmin said: 'To date we have brought partners together to help achieve development opportunities and to ensure that central Douglas's contribution to economic growth and the quality of life on the island are maximised.'

Leader of Douglas Council, David Christian added: 'We want to see our Douglas economy grow and in order to do that we need to look to the future. We want the centre of Douglas to be an exciting and dynamic place to visit, shop and do business in, a capital to be proud of.'

The exhibition is this Wednesday from 2pm to 5.30pm, Thursday from 10am to 5.30pm and Saturday May 17 from 10am to 2pm.
