A corporate golf event has raised ?6,900 for Cruse Bereavement Care Isle of Man.
Held at Peel Golf Club and sponsored, for the third year in succession, by Celton Manx, the event attracted 18 teams drawn principally from the Island’s business sector, with Adorn Domiciliary Care emerging overall winners with a score of 51.4.
His Excellency Lieutenant Governor Mr Adam Wood was among the guests who heard the charity’s deputy chairman Mike Henthorn extend his thanks to all those who supported the event, in particular sponsors Celton Manx. ‘The golf day has grown year on year in stature and the money raised truly makes a fantastic difference’ he said.
The occasion also provided Mr Henthorn the opportunity to introduce the charity’s new patron, Geoff Karran MBE, following the retirement of His Honour Jack Corrin CBE and his wife Pat as president and patron respectively.
Mr Karran praised the tireless work of his predecessor and how the growth of the charity was leading to the need to recruit more volunteers who could provide confidential bereavement support. ‘This type of event is extremely helpful to our cause,’ he added.
Ahead of presenting the prizes Celton Manx executive director Bill Mummery said Cruse Bereavement Care was ‘a brilliant charity to support’ and that as government was looking to devolve more services to communities and local authorities the Island’s third sector would have an increasingly important role to play.
