Arts Council’s Brass Band Season 2014

by isleofman.com 13th May 2014
The public is invited to take a seat for the 2014 Brass Band Season.

The season got under way on 4th May with a performance by Crosby Town Band and will end on 30th September when Rushen Silver Band plays.

The season is a popular annual feature of the Arts Council’s events calendar and it’s particularly appropriate that, as Island of Culture 2014 is celebrated, the bands have the chance to showcase their talents to the public.

All the Island’s brass bands will perform. Concerts take place on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 8pm in the Villa Marina Arcade and on Sunday afternoons at 3pm.

If the weather is fine, the Sunday concerts take place in the Villa Marina gardens

Admission to all the performances is free, although bands may take collections.

Geoff Corkish MBE MLC, Chairman of the Arts Council, said: ‘We are very pleased to support this showcase for our talented brass bands, especially during Island of Culture 2014. We have a tremendous brass band heritage on the Isle of Man and local bands perform at very high level in off-Island competitions.

‘As well as having youth bands as part of the season this year, each band nurtures its own talented young musicians. This is a perfect example of the legacy we are promoting during Island of Culture 2014.’
