The Isle of Man branch of the Samaritans is holding an open evening this Friday in a bid to recruit more volunteers.
A spokesman said: 'We are all working very hard to address the need for support for people going through periods of distress or even suicidal thoughts. Our recruits need to be committed to giving at least three to four hours a week, during day or night, and to learning how to listen to and support our callers.
'In return they get the wonderful feeling of helping someone, the amazing support and friendship of their Samaritan colleagues, and, of course, endless tea and biscuits!'
The open evening is at St Ninian's Hall, Douglas, between 6pm and 8pm on Friday.
