Tax landlords to lower rents, says MHK

Should landlords with empty shops have to pay income tax on them to encourage them to lower rents?

Onchan MHK Peter Karran thinks so, and will ask Treasury Minister Eddie Teare about the issue in Tynwald next week.

Mr Karran says the idea of penalising landlords who keep rents high is one that’s caught on in other countries.

And he says imposing deemed income tax on landlords with empty units could make them lower their rents to affordable levels:Clip 1
