Friends Provident International Harbour2Harbour Sponsored Walk hailed a great success

by isleofman.com 16th May 2014

The inaugural Friends Provident International Harbour2Harbour Sponsored Walk has been hailed a great success after well over one-hundred walkers turned out in glorious sunshine.

The crowd was set-off from Castletown Harbour just before 10am from where they made their way through the town, past Castle Rushen High School and onto Gansey, following the coastline to Port St Mary, onto Cregneash and down into Port Erin to the finish area.

Event organiser Janet Bridle said: ‘It was a really great day and the feedback we have had so far has been very positive. Most importantly, our walkers will have raised vital funds for the three benefiting charities – Southern Befrienders, SPort Erin and Men in Sheds.

‘The success of this year’s event has made us excited for next year, which we hope will be both bigger and better!’

Although the Harbour2Harbour walk wasn’t billed as a race, many entrants used the opportunity to practice for the upcoming Parish Walk, while other walkers enjoyed a more leisurely pace and chatted with friends and family as they appreciated the beautiful coastal views and scenery.

The entry list included Infrastructure Minister and Rushen MHK, Laurence Skelly, South Douglas MHK, David Cretney and multiple Parish Walk winner, Robbie Callister. A range of generations turned out – the youngest entrant was three and the eldest was 78!

Friends Provident International General manager, Caroline Cornish said: ‘Congratulations to the event organisers and all those who took part on Sunday. Friends Provident International is proud to have been able to support this great community event and look forward to seeing the event develop in future years.’
