A motorist has been transferred to a UK hospital in a serious condition after a road traffic collision yesterday.
The collision occurred at about 5pm near the 11th Milestone on the Ballacraine to Kirk Michael road. The three people involved, who have not yet been officially named, had to be cut out of the vehicles by fire crews. The scene was closed for several hours while forensic inquiries were carried out.
Anyone who saw the cars involved - a burgundy Audi A4 travelling towards Kirk Michael and a yellow Hyundai Amica travelling towards Ballacraine - is asked to contact police.
Inspector Derek Flint said: 'The two occupants of the Hyundai, and the single occupant of the Audi were all transferred to Nobles. The Audi driver was subsequently transferred to a UK hospital and is in a serious condition. The driver and passenger of the Hyundai have been less seriously injured, but both remain in hospital.
'The scene was closed for several hours whilst we conducted the necessary forensic enquiries. I’d like to thank people who stopped at the scene to assist, which included off duty medical staff. We’ve had contact from a few witnesses already, but I’m keen that anyone who may have seen either vehicle on the roads between 4 and 5 O’clock to give us a call. Witness detail in collisions helps clarify what we have deduced from our other work.'
