Programme Announced for the Beach Buddies TT Spring Clean

by isleofman.com 19th May 2014

Beach cleaning charity Beach Buddies has arranged a series of special rubbish collection sessions as a “TT Spring Clean” in the week before the festival begins.

This is the second year that Beach Buddies has organised a series of TT clean-up events, in an attempt to make the Isle of Man look at its best at the busiest time of the year, with around 40,000 visitors on the Island.

“Last year was a major success, and we had a good response from our volunteers and the public, and we are expecting even more people to help us this year,” said Beach Buddies founder Bill Dale.

“All we ask is that people give up an hour of their time, and join in a very relaxed and fun hour of making our Island look at its best. It’s not hard work, it’s very much a social occasion, and lots of the people who had their first taste of the Beach Buddies TT Spring Clean last year have now joined us as regular volunteers for our work around the Island.”

Beach Buddies will provide all the equipment necessary, including litterpickers (supplied by DoI), bin bags (supplied by WDS Ltd), and gloves (DoI), although many people do like to bring their own gloves, and smaller ones for children.

As this will involve some clearing work on roads, hi-vis jackets will be supplied, but no children under 18 will be permitted to take part on roads, although there will be many other off-road paths and tracks which will need attention where they are welcome to take part.

Beach Buddies will remove all items collected, using the new Sandy Bairstow trailer, and will recycle as much of the material as possible.

Braddan Commissioners are once again teaming up with Beach Buddies for the first event of the week, on Monday May 19th. Several members of the Commissioners and their staff were involved in 2013, and are again taking part this year.

The “Beach Buddies TT Spring Clean” dates are as follows:-

MONDAY, MAY 19TH: Braddan and the TT course. Meet at Braddan School car park at 6pm.
TUESDAY, MAY 20TH: Southern 100 course. Meet at the Southern 100 HQ at 2pm.
