Football fun and charity is the winner

by isleofman.com 21st May 2014

Charity will be the winner at a fun football tournament being held on Saturday 12th July in aid of Manx Cancer Help and the Mifumi School project. The event will be the day before the World Cup Final so football fans will be able to enjoy a little of their own football fever before settling down to watch the world’s best in Brazil.

The tournament, being organised by Standard Bank’s Corporate & Business Banking team in the Isle of Man, is for all the family, with football, face painting, bouncy castle, go-carts as well as food and refreshments to keep everyone entertained.

Ian Hamilton, Head of Standard Bank’s CBB team says the day is going to be lots of fun for those taking part: ‘What better way to raise money for two very  worthwhile charities, than to have fun with your family. The event will only be a success though if we have lots of teams entering. Last year we raised ?1,600 which was split between the two charities, and this year we’d love to do that again, or even beat it. The football games are seven-a-side and so we’re calling for teams to come forward and register to take part. On the day spectators are also welcome as there will be plenty of fun activities taking place, so put the 12th July in your diary.’

Manx Cancer Help has been supporting islanders with cancer, their families and carers for the past 31 years. Standard Bank is also celebrating its African heritage by sponsoring the Mifumi Schools project, a charity that enables over 700 boys and girls to receive an education in a remote area of Uganda.

Manx Cancer Help, Fundraising events co-ordinator, Ally Martin said it will be a fun day for everyone: ‘We’d like to thank Standard Bank and everyone who takes part because it is events like this that involve the whole family and raise funds to help people on island as well as in Africa, that are so important to the Isle of Man and our community. I’d urge people to contact friends and colleagues and enter a team as it’s a fun way to give back to those who need our help and support.’

The football event is being held at Union Mills Football Club where along with the entertainment, food and refreshments, the bar will be open for the whole event.

It costs ?70 a team to enter with a maximum of 10 people per team. If you would like to enter you can call Standard Bank on: 643735 or email CBBIOM@standardbank.com.

Availability for teams is limited, so please enter now to avoid disappointment.
