Toilet tax appeals rejected

by isleofman.com 23rd May 2014

Manx Utilities has announced this afternoon that it will not consider any appeals against the so-called toilet tax.

The sewerage charge, widely regarded as unfair, is set at a fixed fee of ?50 per property for this financial year. However, Manx Utilities says it will be looking at other charging options for the future.

In the meantime, all properties which receive a rate demand will be liable for the toilet tax with no appeals redress.

A spokesman for the utilities authority said: 'The Board has confirmed that it will review the proposed sewerage charge, and appeals process, and is committed to working together with Treasury to review other charging options for 2015/16. In this regard, the Board is committed to ensuring a fair charging system is applied in order to compensate for the year-on-year reduction in revenue from
Treasury, and is currently considering the options in this respect.'
