The Department of Education and Children is pleased to announce that Adrian Shorthouse has been appointed headteacher of Kewaigue Primary School with effect from September.
 
Mr Shorthouse moves to Kewaigue from Scoill Vallajeelt, which he has headed since September 2008.
 
He will replace Tracy Willoughby, who has led the school for four years and who is moving to head St John’s Primary in the new academic year.
 
Mr Shorthouse grew up in Telford, Shropshire, and worked in several schools within the local education authority. He held leadership roles at every level up to acting headship, before finally leading a team of consultants. A move to the Channel Islands to lead and manage a primary school preceded the headship at Vallajeelt.

Mr Shorthouse is studying for a masters degree in leadership and management and is a leader for the Department of Education and Children’s programme to train the primary school heads of the future.

‘I am obviously pleased to be taking on the headship at Kewaigue and I am looking forward to getting to know the children, parents and staff in the coming months and building on the successes of this thriving school,’ he said.

‘I will, of course, miss the pupils, parents and staff at Vallajeelt, where I have enjoyed six very happy and successful years.’
Mr Shorthouse is married to Clare and has three children. His interests include football, running and cinema.
 
Kewaigue School has 140 pupils on the register.
