Island filmmaker gaining worldwide recognition

by isleofman.com 27th May 2014

The film PAPER JOURNEY about a newspapers journey on the London metro, written and directed by Rory Dorling was chosen recently as an Official Selection of CineYouth 2014 (during 8th–10th May), presented by the Chicago International Film Festival!
It was screened on Saturday 10th May at Columbia College Chicago at a free public festival along with entries from around the world.

Rory originally from Isle of Man and now living in London running his own production company, No1 Street Films, grew his love of film while living in the island, from playing small acting parts as a child in locally made films to receiving his first video camera at 12 years old and then deciding his passion was behind the camera. This journey led him to the Central Film School in London.

Last year during the Isle of Man Film Festival 2013 his film Paper Journey won 'Best in Category' for 'Best Non-Fiction' and in addition he won the overall  'Best of the Fest' award, winning ?500 and a tour of Pinewood Studios, courtesy of Isle of Man Film and Pinewood Pictures.

Rory said: 'It was great to receive my first bit of international recognition as a filmmaker. Whenever you make a film, you want to get it seen by as many people as possible and to be able to say that I have now had a film screened in America, is something I am very proud of. I am now working hard in my own production company and am trying to write when I have the time. I'm hoping to take a couple of projects into production over the next few months.

He is also looking forward to submitting another short film for the 'Open short film competition' during this years Isle of Man Film Festival 2014 in September and hoping to be second time lucky!
