Closing fishery will hurt our own says minister

by isleofman.com 27th May 2014
Closing the Isle of Man's queen scallop fishing will only hurt our own fishing industry.
That is according to Environment Minister Phil Gawne in response to news that the Island's Queenie stocks are around 50 per cent lower than normal.
Scientists from Bangor University have recommended fishing in Manx waters be suspended to allow them to recover.
Mr Gawne says the fishery has become a victim of its own success.
But he thinks closing the fishery down this year means the people who will suffer the most are the Manx fishermen.Clip 1
