by isleofman.com 30th May 2014

A team of runners from Equiom Group has raised an incredible ?1,635 for The Children’s Centre by completing the challenging ‘Race the Sun’. The impressive sponsorship donation was the largest amount raised this year and earned the team the ‘Golden Shoe’ award.

‘Race the Sun’ is an annual endurance event requiring teams of up to 10 participants to complete the Manx 100-mile coastal path ‘Raad ny Foillan’ between sunrise and sunset.  Setting off from Peel at 5.08am, the team of 10, consisting of nine Equiom staff and an Equiom client, completed the run at 9.09pm, placing them in 14th place and beating the sunset by just 13 minutes.

Team captain, Adam Fretwell commented: “I was thrilled to take part in such a fantastic event and to raise money for such a worthy cause. I would like to thank everyone involved in helping to raise funds for our team, including Equiom, my teammates and the friends and family of those taking part. I’m really proud of our team’s achievements; not only for the sponsorship raised, but also for the hard work and training they had to endure in order to beat the sun.”

Mark Eastham from The Children’s Centre added: “I am extremely grateful to Equiom for taking part in Race the Sun and for raising such an astonishing amount for The Children’s Centre. Thanks to Mann Made Group sponsoring the event, all funds raised will go towards supporting vulnerable children and young people in the Isle of Man through our Mobex project which encourages youngsters to make their own positive changes in order to achieve success in life.”
