Organisers of The Children’s Centre’s ever popular annual golf day want to hear from women golfers who want to become the first ladies team to take part in the tournament. The fun competition, which is at Douglas Golf Club on June 20, is a major fundraising event for the Island’s leading charity for families and children which has raised more than ?45,000 since it was first held in 2007. Susie Cox, Community Fundraiser at The Children’s Centre, said:
“Our annual Golf Day is a very important event on our fundraising calendar and all of the proceeds go to support our charitable projects which help thousands of families and children across the Island. We have never had a women’s team enter the tournament before, but we are hoping to put that right this year and would very much like to hear from any women’s teams that want to take part. In addition to raising funds for vital projects, the Golf Day is also a lot of fun and we do everything we can to make sure it’s a great day out for all those who take part. We’re sure there are many lady golfers on the Island who would enjoy the day.”
As well as a chance to win the prestigious Children’s Centre Golf Day Trophy, there’s also an award for the second placed team, individual spot prizes for nearest the pin and the longest drive, plus a wooden spoon award and a ‘beat the pro’ competition.
The event starts at 11am with breakfast baps, tea and coffee followed by registration which opens at noon. Teams will make their way onto the course at 12.45pm with the tournament starting at 1pm. The format is a shotgun start, four person Stableford AM-AM with the best two scores from each hole to count. Men will play from yellow tees, and ladies from red tees. Maximum handicap for men is 24, and 30 for ladies. The day finishes with a meal and prize presentation.
The entry fee is ?300 per team, or ?500 for two teams. Closing date for entries is May 9. For more information – or to book a place for the Golf Day – email Susie Cox at susiecox@thechildrenscentre.org.im or call 676076. Full details about the event can be found at www.thechildrenscentre.org.im
