Landmark stage for Neonatal unit

by isleofman.com 4th June 2014
Development of the ?4million Neonatal Unit at Noble’s Hospital reaches a landmark stage this afternoon (Monday).

The roof is on, it’s watertight, and work on the inside can begin.

Enabling works for the specialised baby care unit began in June 2013 and it will provide the highest level of care for newborn infants up to 28 days after birth.

It’s next to the Jane Crookall Maternity Ward, and is on schedule to be completed in the middle of 2015.

Every year, two or three infants per 1,000 births get into difficulty.

The new unit will hold nine cots – the same capacity as the current ward – but will have much more space.

At 2.30pm the Minister of Health and Social Care, Howard Quayle, will 'top-out' the building, marking a key stage in the process.

And in Tynwald later this month, members will be asked to approve the next sum of money for the project - just over ?150,000.
