Manx ship in Med rescue

by isleofman.com 5th June 2014
A Manx-flagged ship has helped the Italian navy rescue more than 300 North African migrants.

The Jupiter Bay responded to a call from the Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre in Rome late on Friday night as a humanitarian search and rescue operation got underway.

The ship, travelling from Tunis to Gibraltar, found a number of small boats just before midnight and took aboard 322 men, women and children.

The crew provided food, water and amenities and took the people to a port in Sicily, where they were all taken ashore safely.
