Fantastic opportunity to star in a local short film

by isleofman.com 11th June 2014

The Production Team of the short film "The Battle of Ronaldsway" are pleased to announce their Open Casting Evening and Screen Test on Monday 16th June 2014, from 6 p.m. onwards at the Douglas Youth Arts Centre, Kensington Road, Douglas.

"The Battle of Ronaldsway" was one of six winners of MannIN Shorts Screenwriting Competition, and one of the three teams to successfully secure funding offered by Isle of Man Film. A comedy with a big heart, the film is about a group of inept re-enactors attempting recreate a genuine Manx battle with one person’s determined example rallying them to an epic finish.

At the Pitch, the panel likened it to “Five idiots on a beach try to re-enact Gladiator.” As the description suggests, the production and will be great of fun for anyone to be involved with.

The Production team would like to see a large variety of people attend the Open Casting Call and are happy to see anyone who is interested, no matter what level of acting ability. They are looking for the following characters:

Ollie:
Male. Character age 25 to 45, to play the Viking re-enactors' self-elected, self-important leader. A modern day ‘Captain Mainwaring’ who wants to be recognised as important, a leader and well respected; but he’s not quite any of these.

Dave:
Male. Character age 25 to 45, to play the outsider who lives in 'Dave World' and everyone seeks his approval although he seeks none, just historical accuracy!  Annoying, but loveable: think Jeff from ‘Coupling’.

Chrystal:
Female.Character age 20 to 35, to play a confident member of the Viking re-enactors who understands the others more than they do themselves. She is there to be a Viking re-enactor, not to deal with the politics, although she is the best at it, and will get what she wants by using whatever means necessary. She is never out of control but may act in a way to get others to think she is.

Kelly:
Male. Character age 30 to 45, to play the pacifier amongst the group. He will always seek the peaceful route and only wishes to help the others. Generally only talks in order to diffuse a situation and avoid any conflict either starting or escalating.

Andy:
Male, Character age 20 to 30, to play the “teenager” of the group, so subject to frequent mood swings but fundamentally trying to find his position in the world (which revolves around him).

Also (non speaking roles):
* Dog-walker, Female. Character age 50 to 70 to play the slightly confused audience to the Viking re-enactors who just wants to walk her dog!
* Girl Guides, a number of girls - Character age 10 to 12
* Girl Guide leader, Female - Character age 35 to 50

Although the above-named roles have age ranges, these are to be treated as a rough guide only, especially if you think that one of the roles would be ideal for you. The Production Team would prefer to see someone who fits the description more closely than the age range, as it is the look and feel of the short film that is important. If you are interested in auditioning, please email tboriom@gmail.com for more information and a time slot for an audition. If you are unable to attend on Monday evening but would still like to be considered for a part, please contact the Production Team to let them know. It may be that alternate arrangements can be made to accommodate you.
