Cork crash inquests - verdicts returned

by isleofman.com 11th June 2014
A coroner's inquest has returned verdicts of accidental death for six people who died in the Manx2.com crash at Cork Airport three years ago.

Six people died, including the pilot and co-pilot, and six passengers survived when the plane from Belfast City crashed on its third attempt to land in thick fog.

Cork Coroner of inquests Frank O'Connell said it wasn’t the job of the seven-strong jury to place blame for the incident.

He described it as an horrific tragedy.

The hearing was told by an Air Accident Investigation Unit inspector the pilot and co-pilot weren’t equipped to handle the situation they found themselves in.

He siad it would have been better to divert to another airport rather than keep attempting to land at Cork, where visibility was just 300 metres.

Mr O'Connell extended his sympathies to the families of those who’d died.
