Proposed DoI cuts could have far-reaching impact

by isleofman.com 18th June 2014
The parents of children who use the bus to get to school, those in their early 60s, Douglas residents, Tynwald members and those who work for government could all be hit in the pocket by proposed cuts to the Department of Infrastructure's budget.
The DoI has launched a public consultation on how it can make ?5 million-worth of savings in the current financial year.
Proposals include; reintroducing a charge for school buses; raising the age of entitlement for bus passes; charging for parking in central Douglas, for residents' permits and for Tynwald members' and government employees' parking spaces.
Infrastructure Minister Laurence Skelly says considerable savings have been made already by his department, and further ones will start to have more of a direct impact on the public:Clip 1
