by isleofman.com 19th June 2014

Pinewood Studios has won planning permission for major expansion.

The company, in which the Manx Government bought a multi-million pound stake, has welcomed today's announcement.

Chief executive of Pinewood Shepperton, Ivan Dunleavy said: 'Our project builds on the success of the Government’s policy for the creative industries and addresses the shortage of stage space in the UK. As a result of today’s green light from the Secretary of State, thousands of much needed new jobs will be created in this growing sector of the economy. We want to beginconstruction as
soon as possible.'

At the end of last year, Treasury Minister Eddie Teare said Pinewood was the most successful investment in the Manx Government's portfolio.

Planning approval has been given that will double the existing site by adding 100,000 square metres of new facilities, including studios and stages, workshops and production offices.
