On Thursday 26 June between 10am and 5pm, Curators from Manx National Heritage will be on hand at the iMuseum to identify your mystery objects and possessions. In this anniversary year the Curators are keen to see your First World War related artefacts and heirlooms – and will also be providing help on how to research your WWI ancestors.

Curator of Social History Matthew Richardson commented:

“We very much enjoy people coming to see us to tell the story behind the possessions which they’ve come to own or treasure. We can hopefully tell them more about the object, such as where it came from or the person who made it.
 
This year we have a focus on WWI items, like those on display in our First World War exhibition ‘This Terrible Ordeal’ at the Manx Museum. These include costume worn by Munitionettes, items crafted by internees or intensely personal items like a lock of a daughter’s hair carried in the wallet of a soldier in the battles on the Western Front.”
 
With a range of professional staff covering a number of different disciplines, identification of objects is a service which Manx National Heritage is happy to offer. Although we can’t give valuations, we can try to identify mystery items, and if we can’t help directly we can point you in the right direction. In addition, we can advise on the storage and conservation of precious items.

Drop by on Thursday 26 June between 11am and 5pm at the iMuseum, Kingswood Grove. The event is free but donations are welcome to the Manx Museum and National Trust.
