Anyone with a wardrobe overflowing with handbags and scarves they never use is being urged to donate them to Manx Cancer Help. The items will be sold at the charity’s stall at the Tynwald Day fair to raise vital funds to support its wide-ranging services.
Following the success of last year’s handbag sale, which raised ?1,250, the charity has this year decided to ask people to give their unwanted scarves as well, which will be available to buy at stalls 31 and 32 on Monday 7th July. Any good quality items should be dropped off at one of the Sure stores in Douglas, Port Erin or Ramsey by Monday 30th June.
Chief Executive Officer of Manx Cancer Help, Andrea Chambers, said: ‘After the launch of last year’s sale we were given around 800 handbags to sell! This year we decided scarves would make a colourful and popular additional to our stock. We are grateful to Conister Bank, which has sponsored the initiative, and of course Sure for allowing us to place collection points at its stores around the Island.’
Singer-songwriter Katie Melua, who is joint patron of Manx Cancer Help with husband James Toseland, will once again be donating a handbag from her collection to be raffled alongside the other handbags and scarves on sale.
Kerry Waddington from Conister Bank said: ‘We are very pleased to be supporting Manx Cancer Help with their handbag and scarf stall at the Tynwald Day fair. Manx Cancer Help provides an excellent service to people affected by cancer in our community, and at Conister we are proud to support these important causes.’
Sarah Jarvis, Marketing Manager for Sure, added: ‘I am delighted to be helping Manx Cancer Help again this year. Sure is always keen to support local charities and initiatives where we can. At our three conveniently located shops around the island, we have been collecting the bags and scarves for this worthy cause. I need to donate a few items too - I have far too many bags at home!’
