Isle of Man LTA Senior Closed Championships Report & Results

by isleofman.com 25th June 2014

The Island’s “Wimbledon” hosted by Albany LTC at Ballaughton Meadows and sponsored by PokerStars, enjoyed fantastic weather all week, which made Referee, Ian Watson’s task a lot easier. Finals Day produced some very good matches for the spectators and it now seems the “old order” is changing, with 20yr old Laura Feely becoming a triple champion.

However, many times former champion, Karen Faragher, made every effort to stop the takeover. Both players had three finals to play and this they did, producing good play in all three. Laura won the Women’s Singles comfortably 6/1 6/1 but the women’s doubles was a much closer affair with Laura partnered by Elena Snidal overcoming the determined pairing of Karen and Lucy Kerr. 6/4 7/5. In the mixed doubles Laura with Oliver Broadhead had a tough match against Stuart Swann and Karen, eventually winning7/5 6/3. Jack Hedges (19) won the Men’s Singles beating Sean Drewry (15) in a comfortable  6/0 6/1 match. The ratings style Group 1 title went to Callum Watson who beat Dean Morgan 6/1 6/2.  Hedges and Broadhead paired up to win the Men’s Doubles beating Sean Drewry and Adam Pyatt-Coppell  6/3,6/4 in a very hard hitting match which was closer than the score suggests. At the conclusion of play the trophies were presented by IOMLTA Chairman, Brian Walton. Whilst the entry was low the quality was high.
