Pre-school credit to double

by isleofman.com 27th June 2014
Many families entitled to pre-school credit will receive more than twice the previous amount from September.
Government has announced it is doubling the money it spends on the scheme from nearly ?500,000 to ?1 million.
There are an estimated 1,000 families which will be entitled to the credit in 2014/15.
Parents of children who reach four between September 1 this year and August 31 next year will be eligible for ?800 towards the cost of pre-school.
They received ?350 in 2013/14.
Those who receive Employed Person's Allowance, Income Support or income-based Jobseeker's Allowance will get ?1,500, a ?350 increase.
The extra funds are available because of the savings made by means-testing child benefit.
Parents must apply to the Department of Education and Children for the credit.
