Solo Championship Rivalry To Be Renewed

by isleofman.com 27th June 2014

The 2013 Southern 100 Solo Champion, Guy Martin and his immediate predecessor in 2012 and 2011, Michael Dunlop will once again ‘cross swords’ during the Isle of Man Steam Company Southern 100 International Road Races between 7th and 10th July, 2014.

Guy Martin achieved his first Solo Championship title in 2009 regaining the prestigious Derek Ennett Trophy last July will once again be riding the Tyco Suzuki machines.

Michael Dunlop double Solo Champion in 2011 & 2012 was hoping to complete the hat-trick in 2013 and emulate his late Uncle Joey, who is so-far the only Solo Champion to have taken the title three year’s in succession.

Riding for the Official BMW Factory Team during the recent TT Races and taking four wins, including the Superbike and Senior Races on the ‘works’ machines, Michael has successfully gained permission to race the same BMW at the Southern 100 and will be eager to wrest the Solo Championship title from his arch-rival.

Will it be Guy or Michael’s name which will be engraved on the Trophy as the 59th Solo Championship winner, or will it be one of the young rising stars of the current season - all will be revealed on Thursday 10th July.
