Douglas RNLI lifeboat called out to yacht with engine failure

by isleofman.com 30th June 2014
Douglas RNLI lifeboat launched on Saturday evening (28th June) just after 10.00pm to go the aid of a yacht with engine failure.

The RNLI all-weather lifeboat Sir William Hillary was launched under the command of volunteer coxswain Neal Corran to go to the aid of the yacht which had left Fleetwood earlier in the day and had suffered engine failure approximately 12 miles off Douglas.

The 10m yacht with three people on board had been motor sailing and when the yacht’s engine failed was no longer able to make headway. The yacht was taken under tow by the lifeboat and brought into Douglas to the Visitors’ Berth on the Battery Pier where they were met by the Douglas Coastguard.

With the yacht and its crew being attended to by the Douglas Coastguard, the lifeboat returned to station where it was re-housed, washed down, re-fuelled and was ready again for service at 1.15am on the 29th June.
