Bus turning safety campaign

by isleofman.com 30th June 2014
Bus vannin is launching a poster campaign to warn road users not to attempt to pass buses that are turning.

Kate Beecroft MHK, political Member for Public Transport, explained: ‘People don’t always realise that the rear of a bus swings out when the bus turns and our poster campaign aims to make all road users aware of this hazard.

‘Earlier this year the rear of a bus turning right came into contact with a car that was attempting to go straight on. Fortunately no-one was hurt but we are aware of other near misses and we are particularly concerned for cyclists who may think it is safe to pass on the nearside when a bus starts turning right.

‘The message is for all road users to wait for the bus to complete the turn and we are hoping that the poster campaign will increase awareness.’

Warning posters are being applied to the rear of all buses in the bus vannin fleet.
