Chief Minister names new Economic Development minister

by isleofman.com 2nd July 2014
Chief Minister Allan Bell has named the successor to former Economic Development Minister John Shimmin.

Mr Shimmin’s resignation over the Sefton Group bailout has led to a mini-reshuffle within the Council of Ministers.

Laurence Skelly MHK, who previously served in the Department of Economic Development will now take over the reins as its minister.

But that left open Mr Skelly’s role as Infrastructure Minister..

Mr Skelly’s departure from Infrastructure, which he was made minister of in March, means a return to the department for Phil Gawne MHK.

Mr Gawne was Minister for Infrastructure in 2010 and 2011.

But his move means there’s a vacancy for Minister of Environment, Food and Agriculture – and the chief minister has named Castletown MHK Richard Ronan as the man for that job.

Announcing the changes a short time ago, Mr Bell says it’s important to maintain continuity and momentum in government to develop the Island’s economy.
