New DEFA minister aims to boost food production

The new environment, food and agriculture minister says increasing the Island’s food production will be one of his main aims.
Castletown MHK Richard Ronan succeeds Phil Gawne MHK in the role, as Mr Gawne takes over the Department of Infrastructure.

The ministerial reshuffle was announced this morning, a fortnight after West Douglas MHK John Shimmin resigned from Economic Development following the Sefton loans affair.

Mr Ronan says he will be continuing his mission to see a growth in GDP coming from food and drink production: (play audio)

Mr Ronan had previously been a departmental member for DEFA.

Rushen MHK Laurence Skelly succeeds John Shimmin in the role of economic development minister.

Announcing the changes earlier today, the chief minister said it was important to maintain continuity and momentum in government to develop the Island’s economy.Clip 1
