Racing legend knighthood petition

by isleofman.com 3rd July 2014

Fans of the only Formula 1 world champion to have won at the Isle of Man TT races are lobbying for his knighthood.

John Surtees, 80, was the first rider to win the Senior TT three years in a row. A Grand Prix road racer and F1 driver, he remains the only person to have won world championships on both two wheels and four. It is 50 years since he won the F1 world championship.

He's a regular visitor to the Isle of Man and has taken part in TT parade laps in recent years.

More than 100,000 people have signed a petition calling for Surtees to be knighted.
