Queen Elizabeth II High School welcomes Paralympian, Adrian Derbyshire

by isleofman.com 3rd July 2014
Students from years 7 and 8 at QEII High School enjoyed a visit from Warrington athlete, Adrian Derbyshire yesterday. Adrian is a Paralympian fencer who has overcome a serious brain haemorrhage in 2008 to become a champion. He was chosen for Team GB in 2009 and has won two Gold medals and three Silver medals since then.

Adrian is touring Britain talking to young people about ‘Hate Crime’, which encompasses all types of bullying. During his visit, the students were also given a chance to try out a range of items including his medals, his fencing foils and his cycle.

Adrian completed a lap of the Mountain Circuit at the weekend, on his specially adapted hand powered cycle, to raise awareness of his campaign. He averaged a very respectable 21mph and recorded a top speed of 51mph!

The talk was incredibly inspirational and was thoroughly enjoyed by the students and teachers who were lucky enough to be present.
