Ramsey teenager Cal Cooper has been forced to put the brakes on his motorcycle racing career beause of a lack of funds.

Eighteen year old Cal has pulled out of the BSB Supersport series. He was a no- show at Knockhill at the seventh and eighth rounds of the championship last weekend. Cal starred in the Aprilia Superteens and was the first rider to win all three British 450, Mini Twins and Open Championships in a season.

But he can't find the budget to compete in the remainder of the 24-race series.Cal was third overall in last year's BSB Superstock championship but says his riding has been affected by the struggle his family are facing in meeting the costs involved.

Still with Craig Fitzpatrick under the PacedayZ.com banner, Cal said: 'We are continually trying to attract sponsors but have been unsuccessful. The only financial assistance I get is a welcome but very modest sum from IoM Sport for travel.

'I didn’t do too bad last year. I had three wins, lots of top three placings, two lap records and five consecutive poles, but the reality is I am seeing others without those sort of stats getting free or very low cost seats.

'I’m desperate to continue in the Supersport series. I’ve not done too badly considering. I’ve just been out of the points once and prior to Knockhill I was not that far off the top six.'
