Policing, Sefton and education on agenda

by isleofman.com 8th July 2014

After the pomp and ceremony of Tynwald Day, members of the Manx parliament are preparing for the final sitting of the court before the summer recess next week.

A long Tynwald agenda includes a series of ministerial statements, including one from the Chief Minister on the Sefton debacle, a statement from the Education Minister on the future of GSCE-level education and the Treasury Minister on the future funding of care for the elderly.

In the wake of major budget cuts to the police force, the Chief Constable's annual report will be laid before the court, with a motion from Douglas MHK John Houghton on setting a minimum budget and force numbers.

Onchan MHK Peter Karran will be calling for non-Tynwald members to be part of the parliamentary scrutiny body, and for a committee to investigate the propriety of former members of Tynwald and public servants accepting directorships or other paid work from companies with which they had done business in the course of their public duties.
